New Year #23

|
First of all I'd like too wish all of you a belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope all you had a wonderful year and may the coming one be even better. So its that time of the year when everyone is busy celebrating or making plans as to where and how to celebrate, etc etc. If you plan it out properly you'll probably get a whole 10 days for your party ... 10 whole days with friends and family, spending time with them ... simply brilliant. The best thing I like about New Years Eve is remembering what all I did in the last year!

Another year come and gone what have I done, Accomplishments, Achievements?? None what so ever!!! Well ... a couple of significant things at least in my perspective, added a lot more memories that I can share with friends and laugh with them also made a few new friends too.

Last year was good ... actually it was really good, all my friends were here and we used to have a gala time almost daily. Actually early last year was when one of my best friend's plan for his Masters got finalized so our group decided to have a whole lot more fun and we sure as hell did. Trips and fundo things all thorough out the time he was there. The best trip was the one just before he left, one hell of a trip which we all enjoyed .. crazy wild what not ... ask anyone of us to describe it and we'll short of words. I took up Gym and dieting seriously and lost about 12kgs, also got a one pack. Made a few new friends at the work who are awesome people, hanging out with them feels just like the good old college days. Mind you some of them are senior people in the team not age wise but qualification wise but still good fun to hangout with. Oh and how can I forget the whole Bhool Bhulaiya incident at office, so utterly stupid ... an ideal scenario for a person to get slapped, but hopefully I've made a good friend with it :). All those days playing pool in IVY my goodness how much we used to spend there in terms of both time and money. Bike trip to pondicherry. TGIF!!! Ankit's birthday. Nisha and me running around for Divya's birthday suprise. IND vs AUS one day that got washed out. Oh how can I forget .. new best friend Ginger.

Yes a good year. One thing that I liked about myself was that I got used to doing stuff alone. Now now don't go getting ideas and all, by stuff I mean movies, restaurants, coffer shops, shopping etc. I got about doing these things alone, trust me it isn't easy sitting all alone in a restaurant or in a movie, especially if your like me who gets bored very easily. I think its a cool thing to be able to do the above mentioned things alone.

The other part of these festivities is that resolutions are made, I don't know how the whole thing about making resolutions got on to the new years thing. Hmmm well so what are my resolutions for this year. I know I wont be able to keep up with any that I make.

Lets see 6-pack is definitely on the agenda, I wont be fixing a time line to it cause that makes it all the more impossible to follow. The other thing that I really want/need to focus on is to get out of this bug of getting bored. It seems like almost every day that I get bored and then start bugging my friends online. That will again take time ... but this year its going to be one of the things I'm seriously going to work on. I hope I can get to achieving this, more so with the 6-pack than with the getting bore part. Also I'll be blogging more, that way I'll get bored less.

As one of my friend pointed out, one of the good things about blogging is that after sometime when you read your older post, it feels good. Thats the reason I thought I'd write this post .. sort of like a diary I guess. God I never thought I'd maintain one. I guess there is a first time for everything in life :).

Btw I spent New Years Eve with my folks bought a bottle of wine for them, and for myself I watched four movies back to back and wrote this post. hmm not that great huh!! I know kind of pathetic but something is better than nothing :).

Anyways to all of you still reading this post CHEERS yaar and have a blast of year this time and everytime :).

A Brief History of College

|
4 years of Engineering .. 4 years which I consider few of the best years in my life .. 4 years which I wouldn't want to change in anyway .. 4 years that somehow seems to have gone by in just a couple of days .. 4 years that if given a chance to re-live I wouldn't want to change any bit of it!!

Seems just yesterday I used to get up at 7ish types and catch the BMTC to Malleshwarm 18th cross and board the college bus, get to college, spend the entire day among friends, laugh, have a good time ... college days!!!

1st year was mostly making new friends and getting ragged ( I have nothing against it as long as the parties involved know their limit) . Although ragging sounds dumb it was fun or maybe I feel this way cause I didn't have any shitty experiences. I remember the first time I had to say the RV anthem as the bus passed RV falls, I was like "Is this an engineering college or what". Apart from the daily routine of attending classes, my new friends and me started playing basketball a lot, bunk classes, any free hour and we'd be playing basketball. We had workshop in our 2nd semester, this was basically playing around with sheet metal, hammers and see all big m/cs and stuff and this was alloted three hours but we'd rarely take that much time. We'd finish it as quickly as possible and head over to the court. Playing basketball in workshop uniform just makes one sweat even more and after couple of hours of it we'd be drenched completely. In this state we'd walk back into class ( civil class i think) passing the ball between us, fight for a seat under the fan and all this while being least bothered about whether the lecturer is okay or not with us being in class :). Semester exam because everyone was just out of PU/college the josh and enthusiasm about doing well was still there in many of us so we actually studied days b4 the exams and managed to pull in good marks. Oh and how can I forget, the basket ball tournament during our 2nd semester for which we bunked so many classes and later went to the lecturers saying that we were volunteers there.

2nd year was okay I don't remember much of it actually. I remember a few of us going to HOD's room and actually asking him if we cud do a mass bunk so that we could see the IND vs PAK world cup match, and he sort of gave in. I made a couple of good friends and we later got the name "Bheja Fries". Canteen was sort of like our hangout area, just go there sit down along the outer walls, have our lunch, sit down some more .. talk .. laugh .. do a bit of masti but one thing that was always there was mountain dew :). 4th semester how can I ever forget is when I got a platinum medal in DBMS, somehow that subject didn't fit well with me and I was very very lucky to get away with a platinum. Oh and how can I forget we managed to pull of the only class trip to IIT chennai for the tech fest they were hosting. The trip was fun!! Oh and yeah this is also when the josh for getting "good" marks left me!!

3rd year was one of the best year we had the department fest which was so cool and the best that has happened in college, everyday of the fest was damn neat and everyone part of it would have memories about those days. I remember the night out in college where few of us painted the college red with our fest posters then went into our department and slept off in one of the classrooms!! The other incident although I wasn't there was about the HOD's meeting where some conflict between the different departments conducting the fest had occurred we won a moral victory, whenever I remember this it makes me feel good for some reason. My friends and me took up playing badminton cause the idiot who kept the keys to the court almost always made up some sort of story and wouldn't give it to us. Bheja fries also made their first trip to pondicherry around this time. Oh and yeah at the end of 3rd year our Placements had started. First interview that I sat down for was CTS and i got through luckily, thanks to Ribhu who got me through the written round :).

4th year .. I think here is when all of us started realizing that shit we are in 4th year college khatam ... whats going to happen and all!! Even with all this thinking we didn't do as much as we should have in the last year what with all the free time we had. We had the time but I guess the one thing that was common in my group got the better of us :). Funny memories well .. I'm not sure which semester it was but I had bought a rubber lizard and in one of the classes while the lecture was going on, one of my friends or me threw it to ahead to some random person, amazingly it didn't have the effect that I thought it would but anyways few of us got a good laugh and yeah we didn't get caught. In the 8th semester we had our project and boy what a project it was. Ankit, Preethi and me formed the team and I'm very sure based on the no: of lines of code ours was the smallest project. We had to run about a lot but the whole thing was fun and that was the main point. I got to freak out a bit with a GSM modem and also got to play around with a bit of hardware just like i had wanted to. The other crazy incident is how pavan and me got to be sun certified hackers. The best part it was how we just bursted laughing and the shock on our lecturer's who was announcing the names of the winners .. third places .. lol. Also I got placed in I2. I didn't want to sit for this company but thanks to Divya and Nisha who forced me to take it up. I'm glad and very thankful that they did.

Other random and crazy stuff I remember .. sitting in the last bench day after day doing everything from pictionary, dumb charades(clean and porn version), eatting, sleeping, listening to music, hiding our cell phones when the routine idiots come to check our bags .. if the person in front got caught then prompt all the wrong answers, go to the extent of tickling him/her .. that crazy MCA lecturer that came and told us about the rat race thingy and all .. SCM classes .. preparing for the exams, DL god chilly chicken gravy, kalmi kabab, mountain dew .. talking to ranga and begging for the keys .. playing Counter Strike in the hostel LAN .. Naveen and Sagar sirs classes .. Sagar my classmate explaining to our physics maam that air bags dont have sand in them .. Abhishek our PC's story about the proxy company coming for placements .. rachita and me fighting over cocktail food .. talks with ros in the bus ( tough sometime wud get onto my nerves :) ) .. learning how to ride a bike .. mrinal explaining that the cigg pack in his bag was a collector's edition .. college bus .. "GAPPU DROPS ki jay ho!!" Nisha and Gayatri making plans on what the minimum amount to study would be and then after them making the plan I'd talk to them and reduce it even more .. the rapo between Roshan and our unix lecturer .. my friends made up rapo between sirisha( physics lecturer) and me .. Our DBMS lecturers .. electronics LAB, both the Divyas and me in one team awesome fun .. our HOD .. our Data Communication paper brilliant!!

hmm ... College is one the best days of every ones life, it doesn't matter which college your from its the same all over the world but one thing is for sure you wont get to live through it again, the life after it is just one hell of a ride where more often than not when you reach your destination it isn't what you really want. For me those days are behind me but as I said i have no regrets, I've had a great time every bit of it.

Just want to say to all the people who are reading this and are still in college don't waste it, these are the days that you'll remember sitting in your 4x4 cubes later on. Live these days like there is no tomorrow and make them worth remembering!!!

To all those who have already lived through it .. Cheers to those memories!!!

PS: ISE folks who do read this .. post yr memories too as comments!!

WOW ... what a movie! Absolutely brilliant. Awesome comedy, good amount of romance unlike the usual that one gets in a SRK movie, lot of masala, nice debut by Deepika whose smile is a killer and unlike other movies Farah gets very nice shots of this. As such the story line is kind of ... well different. The whole punarjanam thing in this era would have been crap if it wasn't for her way of executing the movie and the thrills provided by SRK, Shreyas Talpade's and Arjun Rampal have performed very well. Basically all the ingredients of a nice block buster.

What makes this movie a must watch ...

1. Farah Khan's brilliance

2. Deepika Padukone

3. Shahrukh Khan's genius

4. The movie is filled with dumb scenes and the dumbness is so obvious and up front that one can't help but laugh uncontrollably. Scenes like mohobaat man and the fight scene where SRK is in red, absolutely funny and a lot more through out the first half and a bit in the 2nd.

5. The light romance is quite nice, not over done.

6. The sheer no: of actors in the movie the "32 star studded song" is brilliant, all the ladies entries will make u droll for sure!!

7. All the hype about Saawariya vs OSO.

8. One of the most complete scores by Vishal-Shekhar and Javed Akhtar. The songs have a nice mixture of everything qawalli, bhangra and western arrangements.

9. Altough SRK does look a bit old to be opposite Deepika but the enthu and energy he brings to the character of Om would be difficult for the rest in bollywood. Still the age thingy is way better than many of the south films.

10. Excellent dialogue which so cleverly incorporates the 70's clichés into these characters everyday parlance. Watch out for Kiron Kher and SRK mother-son exchanges!!

11. Also watch out how SRK take his own trip during the award functions.

Unpretentious and completely transparent in its intentions, Om Shanti Om is an entertainer in the true sense of the word, mixing up elements like comedy, drama, action and emotion to create a one hell of an entertainer.

Folks, treat yourself to some unadulterated fun and put your hands up in the air and sing OM SHANTI OM

How many of you thought this is something about a really hot girl or about some incident that involved a really hot amazing girl or something really stupid that i did with a bombshell??? I'm sure half the ppl would, I know i would have.

Well sorry about getting your expectations down, this is a conversation that i had with some of my colleagues. Just want to make it clear to all of you who are still reading this post and to those people who share the name "Natasha", no hard feelings. Its just that i found this funny and i wanted to share it :)

It was a Tuesday and we were down with mid-week crisis, my colleagues and me were out sitting in the cafeteria having coffee and discussing about movies in general. The topic turned to this weekend releases which were Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Laga Chunari Main dag and a few more. The first thing that struck us was "The Trailer" that keeps coming up on every channel, I'm sure all those who spend time even switching between channels wouldn't have missed it.

The scene goes like this ...

Door opens. Rani Mukherjee leaning against the door frame says " Hi! I'm Natasha. "

We burst out laughing for one and here are our thoughts not just thoughts we just laughing our guts out and blurting these words ...

1. WHAAAT ... I'm doing U?????

2. OKAY!! .. The clothes are in that room but i suggest u sat with the jhadoo.

3. ROTFL!! .. Good one .. actually awesome ... but isn't Halloween a long time away!!

I haven't seen the movie and I doubt I'll be going for it but I'm guessing shez playing a call girl or an arm candy in this particular scene. Imagine with what enthu the guy/girl would have placed the call to her, how high his/her hopes were, the name itself I'd say is a killer !!! and Rani making use of it in this scene makes it ... lol

Its not that i have anything against Rani Mukherjee, she has done some brilliant work. Black, Bunty aur Bubli, Hum Tum i liked it very much. I don't know how to act myself so i have no views on her acting capabilities its just that this particular scene with her in that role well not very convincing but very funny indeed .

Life in the Fast Lane

|
Over the past year i have been living life in the fast lane and i just loved it. I'm sure a lot of people would be doing more and i would be ten leagues away from what they accomplished in this lane. For me this was fun and i consider it the best part of my life so far.

Doing things on the go, not planning for anything, even if we planned things the very high possibility that it would end up in us going to pondicherry, being in koramangala and still go to mysore just to have dinner, how can i forget eating and shopping like crazy, hanging out with few of my best friends for almost the entire day and day after day having one hell of a time or just spending time with them, planning crazy things and going through with some of them sometimes, learning to appreciate Discovery channel and Animal Planet ;). There were hardly days when we didn't meet up and hanging out never got boring every bit of it was fun. Yeah but being in this lane i have had days when i have said to myself "hey what did we do last weekend" but again no regrets here at all :) eventually i'd spend an hour or two recollecting what i had done. Sitting on terrace and talking random stuff in the middle of the night, discovering golconda. Its not always about doing something every time, doing nothing together also counts. My notion of being in the fast lane !!!

Why i call it the fast lane, well thats how it was with my friends and me. I guess its the same everywhere. You meet up in the morning and plan to doing something that everyone or a few like and the next thing you know you get a call from home "Its 2 in the night!! where the hell are you??".

Lol i just love those days, yup "those" days and i miss them terribly. Right now i have had to change gears from 6th to almost neutral. I googled for "life's become slow" and got this. WOW people actually want a slow paced life(nothing against them). I guess when yr in the fast lane for a long time, u want to slow down or may be my notion of being in the fast lane isn't fast enough cause i don't want it to change for me.

PS:
try google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" on the title.
